Six days ago, Arthur announced to you a new limited edition Omega Speedmaster Replica inspired by Mr. Robert-Jan Broer of Fratello replica watches and the social media phenomenon that is “Speedy Tuesday.” The run of 2012 replica watches was a hit, with all pieces being reserved quickly online (the actual sale of the pieces will take place this summer – the reservation simply holds a place for said person to make the purchase of the replica watch when it comes time). The replica watch, with subtle nods to some early Alaska Project replica watches, is a looker, to the point where I myself even made a reservation to have the chance at buying this replica watch. Earlier today, about five hours ago to be exact, I ran into my old friend Robert-Jan and he happened to be wearing the very first replica watch in the series. Here is your hands-on with the “Speedy Tuesday Speedmaster” (taken on a cafeteria table at the SIHH press center).
So, first things first, I’ll say the Omega Speedmaster ‘Speedy Tuesday’ Replica is better in person than in any press photos. I loved the looks of it there, but in the metal, it is awesome. The radial registers really add some great depth to this dial, and the steel hands are fantastic too.
The quality of the brushing on the case is very high-end and to me really, really makes this design. Because of the matte finishing, it feels unlike any other Speedmaster I’ve ever known. On the caseback, you’ll see special engravings, though without a doubt, Robert-Jan’s replica watch has the most special engraving of “0/2012.” Yup, he get’s the prototype – as he should.
